Established in 1999, SAWIMA, in association with the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR), was founded when the transformations and de-racialization of the economy was a priority. Its aim was to support the vision of increasing the number of women participating in the mining sector at all levels. We have since grown into a leading organization, committed to driving change, advocating for equal opportunities, and fostering an inclusive culture in mining companies worldwide.

SAWIMA aims to unlock the potential of South African women in
mining as a means of achieving economic emancipation through:
• Lobbying and advocacy.
• Capability and capacity development.
• Creating awareness of opportunities in mining.
• Facilitating access to funding.
• Investment management.

At SAWIMA, we ignite sustainable livelihoods of women through active participation and ownership in the mining sector.
